Region 10 HFMA Webinar: Lunch & Learn with Alan Pruhs, A Discussion on Health Equity

In a nearly 20-year career as executive director of the Association for Utah Community Health (AUCH), Alan Pruhs has been a driving force to promote health equity and increase the number of federally qualified health centers in the Beehive State.

The importance of FQHCs, as they are known, cannot be overstated. FQHCs provide comprehensive services and improve access to care in rural settings, and their presence means improved health outcomes for thousands of Utahns in managing chronic conditions and reducing the burden on hospitals. There are 14 FQHCs that operate 68 locations in Utah.

In fall 2025, Pruhs was honored as a healthcare hero by Utah Business.

“I am truly honored to receive this award in recognition of the work of the Association for Utah Community Health, the Community Health Centers, and our incredible partners. It has been a tremendous privilege to have served alongside such dedicated, compassionate and caring healthcare providers for the past 21 years. I’ve also been very fortunate to have the support from amazing community and philanthropic partners, who have enabled and assisted us in our mission to expand access to affordable, high-quality healthcare in underserved areas and with underrepresented populations. I am very proud to have been recognized for the great work of this collective and humbly accept this on behalf of them all – the true healthcare heroes,” Pruhs noted.

Despite the progress made, nearly half of Utah’s population is uninsured. This sobering statistic has had drastic effects on the healthcare system and might be made worse by the federal government’s reduction in Medicaid.

AUCH executive director Alan Pruhs will join HFMA’s Lunch & Learn session this January where he will address a range of topics, and the lessons he has learned over a 30-year career in healthcare.
