HonorHealth Names Dr. John Neil Successor to CEO Todd LaPorte

Dr. Neil is scheduled to take over the leadership role at one of Arizona’s largest non-profit health systems on March 1, 2027. The transition comes during a period of significant growth for HonorHealth. Under LaPorte’s two decades of leadership, the system expanded its footprint through acquisitions, including Steward Health Care facilities and Evernorth Care Group clinics, while investing hundreds of millions of dollars in new facilities, specialty programs, and community-based services.

The leadership transition marks the next chapter for a health system that has increasingly emerged as a major competitor in Arizona’s healthcare market, as demand for services continues to grow alongside the state’s population.

LaPorte joined HonorHealth in 2001 and spent nearly two decades as chief financial officer before being named the organization’s 10th CEO in 2017. During LaPorte’s tenure, HonorHealth strengthened its position as one of Arizona’s largest healthcare providers and expanded its presence in several high-growth markets throughout metropolitan Phoenix.  The health system operates nine hospitals, hundreds of outpatient locations, and said it employs more than 20,000 physicians, staff and volunteers across the Valley.

In his new role as strategic advisor to the CEO, LaPorte will continue focusing on community impact, healthcare advocacy and key initiatives that benefit the organization and the broader healthcare landscape.

Dr. Neil currently serves as executive vice president and has played a key role in HonorHealth’s strategic growth, clinical operations and physician alignment efforts, according to an HonorHealth press release regarding the appointment. A physician executive, Neil has helped lead initiatives focused on quality, innovation and expanding access to care across the health system.

HonorHealth’s board approved the succession plan following what it described as a deliberate leadership transition process. “John is a highly respected leader who understands our mission, our people, and our communities,” said HonorHealth Board Chair Mike Welborn. “He has served the medical mission of this community in some capacity for the past 27 years, and his leadership will ensure continuity while driving continued innovation and growth.”
