The central role of palliative care across all systems will be addressed and a trauma-informed perspective in working with those affected by the pandemic, as well as the critical importance of workforce education and training.

This webinar, coordinated by the Better Care Playbook and made possible through the Seven Foundation Collaborative, will explore opportunities for health systems and plans to work with community health workers to support high-need individuals, with a focus on addressing the long-term impacts of COVID-19. Currently this pandemic disproportionately impacts high-risk populations and communities of color, and community health workers play a valuable role in providing critical supports for people with complex health and social needs and addressing health disparities.
Featured speakers will describe the roles and value of community health workers, share implementation and sustainable financing strategies, and discuss how community health worker programs can be established and expanded to mitigate the negative effects of COVID-19 on high-risk populations.
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office of Minority Health is hosting a webinar on Thursday, September 17, 2020 on the impact of COVID-19 among minority communities. The Advancing the Response to COVID-19: Sharing Promising Programs and Practices for Racial and Ethnic Minority Communities virtual symposium will feature promising practices, programs, and strategies for combatting the pandemic in order to achieve health equity in communities of color.
By bringing health professionals, community leaders and public policy leaders together, the Office of Minority Health virtual symposium will host a meaningful exchange of actionable ideas for responding to the pandemic through the examination of a wide range of topics, including:
- COVID-19 racial and ethnic data and data-informed response
- How health equity can drive state, territorial, and tribal COVID-19 response
- Community-based and culturally appropriate approaches for addressing COVID-19 among racial and ethnic minority populations
