Three Health Insurance Companies Seek to Raise Rates in 2018

Requests filed with Arizona Department of Insurance range from 12 to 19 percent increases.

The Phoenix Business Journal reports the carriers’ requests are for their health plans that are not part of the Affordable Care Act’s health insurance marketplace.

Effective April 1, All Savers Insurance Co. is requesting a 12.6 percent increase for its small group PPO coverage.

UnitedHealthcare of Arizona is asking for a 13.9 percent increase for its HMO coverage for small group major medical health insurance effective April 1.

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Arizona has requested a 19.3 percent increase in its PPO coverage for individual major medical health insurance, effective May 1.

Jerry McElroy

Jerry McElroy worked for 35 years for Colorado’s largest integrated health care system that included an 800-member physician group. Twenty-eight of those years were spent doing government relations work for the organization. During that time, he was also closely involved with many different organizations with interests in health care and business issues such as the Colorado Association of Health Plans, the Denver Metro Chamber of Commerce, the Colorado Competitive Council, Business Council for Healthcare Competition, and the Colorado Association of Commerce and Industry. Jerry is known as one of the foremost experts on healthcare issues. He graduated from the University of Alabama in 1975 with a degree of Physician Assistant in Medicine and worked in that field for seven years before moving to the area of government relations.
