Last Friday, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services announced that it would substantially raise standard monthly premiums for Medicare Part B.
Medicare Part B covers physicians’ services, outpatient hospital services, home health services and other medical and health services not covered by Part A. The premium for Part B will rise by $10.30 to $185.00 in 2025 and the deductible will increase to $257 from $240, USA Today reports. The jump is higher than both inflation and the Social Security cost-of-living adjustment (COLA). While the rate of premium increase has outpaced COLA for years, the disparity arises from the exclusion of Medicare costs from the price index used to calculate the adjustment.
Part B premiums are based on income, so while Social Security recipients will not see the increase in their bottom line, beneficiaries with higher incomes will, the Hill reports.
