Testimony presented at CMS Stakeholder Meeting in Baltimore.
MGMA outlined the importance of the agency promulgating a regulation to establish a national standard for electronic attachments. Attachments are typically used during a practice’s revenue cycle in support of claims, prior authorization, referrals, and other transactions. More than 90% of respondents in a recent MGMA member survey indicated that the lack of a standard was burdensome to their practice. In its testimony, the association outlined the current manual process of collecting and sending supporting clinical documentation and the time and cost savings associated with moving to an automated electronic attachments approach.
