Steward Health Care System LLC (Steward) becomes sole operator of the newly merged company and will oversee 36 individual hospitals across 10 states along with managed care operations in Arizona, Utah, and Massachusetts.
This merger enables Steward to expand our successful, physician-led, integrated care model. We look forward to providing the highest quality of care through keeping patients healthy and being available with advanced care in their community, should they need it. Steward will be introducing patients, physicians, and employees in six new states to our innovative programs and community commitment model.
The IASIS merger also gives Steward a managed risk platform including Health Choice, which delivers managed care and health insurance services to more than 680,000 patients.
The same day as the acquisition (September 29), Iasis Healthcare CEO W. Carl Whitmer resigned after 17 years, according to a report by The Tennessean.
Locally, the IASIS market footprint includes:
Arizona IASIS Hospitals:
- Mountain Vista Medical Center
- St. Luke’s Medical Center
- Tempe St. Luke’s Hospital
- St. Luke’s Behavioral Health Center (includes Grossman Burn Center)
In addition, Arizona IASIS holdings include Health Choice Preferred, an accountable care organization (ACO), and three managed care organizations: Health Choice Arizona, serving AHCCCS acute members, Health Choice Generations, serving Medicare Advantage Dual Special Needs members and Health Choice Integrated Care, serving RBHA members in Mohave, Coconino, Apache, Navajo, Gila, and Yavapai counties.
After the merger, the total number of covered lives within Steward’s integrated care network and these insurance products is more than 1.1 million, with paneled lives estimated at 2.5 million.
