Health systems, hospitals and doctors asked the agency to push the deadline for signed participation agreements and select clinical episodes from August 1 to November 1, CMS extended the deadline to August 8, 2018.Stakeholders argued that CMS hadn’t released important information and data on the model until the beginning of June leaving many to opt out of the model or limit their episode selection.
CMS also extended the date for program deliverables to September 14, 2018, but did not bend to industry pressure to extend the model’s start date of October 1. The American Hospital Association sent a letter in June to CMS suggesting two additional start dates, January 1 and April 1, 2019.
