The idea is to offer health plans in Maricopa County that promise to save employers money on health insurance premiums.
This is the first time the two organizations not only jointly govern the health plans they are launching, but also will share in the risks of the plans’ financial success, said Dr. David Hanekom, CEO of Arizona Care Network.
We have agreed to really integrate functionally our medical management activities around population health management and accountable care for Cigna members within Maricopa County and jointly develop products and health benefits in the best interest of those members. That level of cooperation is unique and a first for the Arizona Care Network.
The Arizona Care Network includes Dignity Health, Abrazo Community Health Network, Phoenix Children’s Hospital as well as physicians affiliated with those health systems in Maricopa County. It also will include providers in Cigna Medical Group as well as HonorHealth, which has its own shared-risk arrangements with Cigna.
Phoenix-based Banner Health Network and Aetna Inc. launched a similar shared savings model in 2012, reaping huge savings and improving quality for members.
